Increasing the Course Discoverability, Entri app

How a Search-First Experience Led to a 149% Increase in Course Activations on Entri App

About Entri app

Entri is one of India's leading vernacular learning platforms with over 1.5 crore downloads, offering high-quality education in native languages for learners from tier 2 and tier 3 cities.

Tl;dr

Our legacy three-step onboarding forced users through goal and category screens before ever seeing a course, causing high drop-off. We replaced it with a single, searchable screen showing popular categories and real course cards up front, cutting friction and increasing course activation by 149%.

Problem Statement

Despite offering a rich catalog, many new users struggled to locate relevant courses quickly, leading to high drop-off during onboarding. Mixpanel data shows more than half of users dropped off before ever reaching a single course.

Legacy Flow (Before)

The legacy flow forced users through a three-step hierarchical funnel, first choosing a goal then selecting a broad sub-category, and only on the third screen showing specific courses, which created unnecessary decisions, high friction, and cognitive load that led many users to abandon discovery before ever seeing any real content.

Search-First Flow (After)

The new design puts everything on one screen so you can immediately search for a course or pick from popular categories. You see real course cards right away and can use simple filters, cutting out extra steps and making it much faster to find what you want.

Thinking out loud with AI

Since I wanted to think beyond static screens from step zero, I used Claude AI to code a quick interactive wireframe that drove off our existing API responses. In a few minutes I had a working prototype that navigated real search behavior.

Impact at a Glance

149% Increase in Course Activations After Discovery Redesign

The redesign significantly improved user engagement across key metrics. Course activations increased by 149%, rising from 21.35% to 53.15%. Course visits saw a 48.7% uplift, moving from 43.8% to 65.11%. Most notably, the conversion rate from course visit to activation improved by 67.4%, increasing from 48.75% to 81.63%. These gains were driven by simplifying the discovery flow and surfacing relevant content earlier.
